Number of SkI Areas Still Open in Alps Drops to Single Figures - Worldwide Less Than 20

With all of France's ski slopes currently closed the number of ski areas open in the Alps for glacier skiing has dropped down in to single figures at this 'low season' in Europe before more areas open for summer skiing and boarding in late June and July.

Busy February Half Term Week 2015 Predicted

Tour operators are advising people to book early for the coming ski season and saying this particularly applies to families looking for February half term holidays.

While tour operators of course always advise people to book early, there seems to be more to it this year as the February half term week is concentrated in to just one week, rather than being spread over several depending on where you live. This is compounded by the fact that many French, Belgian and Dutch schools are on holiday the same week, concentrating demand.

Three of Six Still Open US Areas Plan to Close On Monday

It's the final weekend of the season coming up at a number of the remaining still open US resorts which have stayed open to the coming long US 'Memorial Day' holiday weekend but will then call it a day on their 2013-14 ski seasons at the end of next Monday the 26th.

Summer Skiing France 2014

Les 2 Alpes in Summer

All the ski lifts in France are currently closed with no lift-assisted snowsports available, but four of the country's resorts do plan to re-open for summer skiing and boarding in June and July through to April.

That number actually increased as of last summer, against a trend of ever decreasing summer skiing opportunities over the past 20 years, as Alpe d'Huez decided to reintroduced summer snowsports after around a decade long break.

Slush Cup on Canada’s Last Day of 2013-14

It's the last day of the ski season at Canada's two still open ski areas – Sunshine near Banff in Alberta and Whistler in BC.

Sunshine Village will mark the end of their season with what they describe as, "The end of season party, to end all season parties," the 86th Annual Slush Cup party.

Ski Hosting Case Postponed For Second Time

The legal case being brought by French authorities against tour operator Le Ski have been postponed for a second time.

The case, one of three wholly separate legal actions being brought on different grounds at present by French authorities against British companies and individuals in the ski travel business, began in its present form at the end of winter 2012-13 when Le Ski staff who were showing the company's clients around the slopes were stopped and questioned.

Colorado Ski Area Extends Season Further in to June after 60cm Snowfall

Arapahoe Basin, the only ski area still open in Colorado and now one of less than half a dozen still open in the US, has decided to extend its 2013-14 ski season by a further week to the weekend of June 6th-8th, 2014

Fresh Snow in the Alps and The Rockies

(Sunshine after the snow at Arapahoe Basin in Colorado today)

There's been heavy snow in the Alps and Rockies, just as most ski areas have now finally closed for the 2014-15 season.

The latest snow fall follows a similar post-main-season fall in the first week of May – meaning that May is starting to look a snowier month than April at altitude in some resorts.

Refurbished Jungfraujoch Restaurant Opens After CHF 11m Spend

After ten months of construction, the Glacier Restaurant at the Jungfraujoch – Europe's highest rail-served point, high above Grindelwald and Wengen - has reopened.

Jungfrau Railways have invested approximately 11 million Swiss francs (£7.4m) in upgrading their 'Top of Europe' excursion destination which also offers skiing in summertime.

London Ski Show To Be A Day Shorter This Autumn

The London ski show will be a day shorter this winter say the organisers, cut from five to four days.

The new format will include two late night openings, "…where you can enjoy an exciting après ski atmosphere with live entertainment," said a statement from The Daily Telegraph who currently run shows in London and Manchester.
