Pam Thorburn makes Top 20 in Formigal Ladies Downhill

British Number two finishes in top 20 at Formigal Ladies FIS Downhill European Cup.

Scottish ski racer Pamela Thorburn (23) was the only Brit to take part in the competition held at Formigal on Thursday (18/02/10). Pamela, who raced alongside skiers from Austria, France and the home nation Spain, finished 19th out of 62 competitors and said she was very pleased with the result. Conditions of the race were once again impeccable, clear sunshine, little wind and a large number of spectators.

Kwame Ready To Race

Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong, now known as the Snow Leopard, who started skiing just over five years ago at Milton Keynes SNO!zone in England, has qualified for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and will be representing Ghana in the men's slalom event Whistler on February 27.

Marmot Basin Wins ‘Best Longest New Lift’

Jasper's Marmot Basin ski area in Alberta, Canada has recently been awarded the 'Best Longest New Lift' title by Ski Canada Magazine. There may not have been many contenders in Canada this year, with few new lifts added but nonetheless the award recognises the significance of the massive new ski lift project and the vast improvement it has made to the ski area.

Another New Quad Chairlift for New Zealand

A second new quad chairlift has been announced as being under construction in New Zealand ahead of the southern hemisphere's 2010 season.

Novices and families will benefit from new Express Chairlift at Coronet Peak ski resort which accompanies a significant upgrade of the 'Big Easy' novice area.

The Eye of the Wind Welcomes the World

Grouse Mountain ski area in Vancouver, currently open 24 hours a day for snow sports in celebration of the Olympic Games, is also celebrating the inauguration of its impressive new 65m high wind turbine, The Eye of the Wind. The inauguration ceremony this week launch of Vancouver's first commercially viable wind turbine was attended by BC Premier Gordon Campbell, and over two hundred local and international dignitaries.

British Snowboard Association Reborn

Blames Alpine Skiing for Demise of Snowsport GB

Following the news that Britain's governing body of snow sports, Snowsport GB, has gone into administration, the British Snowboard Association (BSA) has announced it will retake control of snowboarding in the UK.

British Coaches on way to Vancouver After demise of Snowsport GB

Owing to the sudden demise of the British Ski & Snowboard Federation (aka Snowsport GB) which went into administration on 5th Feb. 2010, the fourteen British Ski & Snowboard athletes, departing for the Winter Olympics, which start in Vancouver next weekend, were going to be without the two most important members of their team…………..the two Coaches!

Over 100,000 Have Already Skied Scotland This Season

More than 100,000 skiers and snowboarders have been enjoying some of the best snow Scotland has seen for decades since the start of the season. The good news is that the exceptional snow conditions look set to continue into February.

Scotland's five mountain ski areas had sold more than 107,500 tickets by the 27th January. This total excludes all the season ticket holders who have been visiting regularly, and some school and other groups. These are counted separately by some ski areas and are usually only included in the final total number of "skier days" at the end of the season.

Dusseldorf Airport To Install Indoor Ski Jump

The check in hall at Düsseldorf International Airport is to create what is believed to be the world's first indoor-snow-ski-jump-in-an-airport as part of the seventh annual TravelSuperMart which will take place from February 6-7, a few days before the Winter Olympics kick off in Vancouver.
