New FIS President & First Ever British Representative on Council

It has been an exciting day for ski racing fans with the world's governing body, the International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS), electing a new president, as well as a new FIS Council which includes Britain's first ever representative.
Alexander Ospelt from Liechtenstein won the presidency election by a razor sharp 65 to 64 votes. Meanwhile GB Snowsport Chief Executive, Victoria Gosling OBE was elected to the FIS Council as a representative of Britain, the first time Britain's National Ski Association has held an elected role on the body.

New Gondola For Niseko

Niseko is to unveil a new gondola next winter, with a second stage of the lift set to follow a year later for winter 27-28. The resort will also replace one of the world's few remaining old single chairlifts with a double chair as part of the upgrades.

The Remarkables to become New Zealand's largest ski area with new terrain expansion

New Zealand ski operator NZSki has unveiled plans for a major expansion at The Remarkables ski area near Queenstown that would make it the largest lift-served ski area in the country.
The proposal, which has been lodged through New Zealand's 'fast-track' approval process, would see The Remarkables expand into the neighbouring Doolans Basin, adding 262 hectares of new skiable terrain.

Val d’Isère Opens For Summer Ski Season

The 2026 summer ski season has gotten underway at Val d'Isère this morning with the famous French resort reporting great conditions after fresh snowfall on its Pisaillas Glacier in the past few days and temperatures down below –3.5 °C overnight.

Dave Ryding Becomes Ski Club of GB Ambassador

Dave Ryding, Britain's most successful men's alpine ski racer and the country's only FIS Alpine Ski World Cup winner, has joined the Ski Club of Great Britain as an ambassador following his retirement at the end of the 2025–26 season. He takes on the role alongside Chemmy Alcott, the nation's most successful women's alpine racer.

More Snowfall in Australia as 2026 Season Start Excitement Builds

More snowfall and low temperatures for snowmaking is continuing to ramp up excitement levels in Australia with less than 36 hours to go to the start of the 2026 season on Saturday.
Although two New Zealand ski areas have already opened small snow areas created with all-weather snowmaking systems last weekend, this coming weekend should mark the first full resort openings of the 2026 southern hemisphere ski season, in Australia.

Australia Sees Fresh Snowfall With 2026 Season Starting This Weekend

Australia's 2026 ski season is due to kick off this weekend and the good news is that snow has been falling and temperatures dropping further below freezing overnight for the past few evenings.
Today is the first day of winter in the southern hemisphere by the meteorological measure of the seasons with Australia's ski season traditionally starting on the first full weekend of June, which includes a public holiday on the Monday in most states including the main ski ones of Victoria and New South Wales to honour King Charles III's birthday.
