Aberdeen's Kirsty Muir secured the women's Crystal Globe today after taking second place in the final Freeski Slopestyle World Cup of the 2025/26 campaign in Silvaplana, Switzerland.
The result caps a standout season for the 21‑year‑old, who arrived in Silvaplana fresh from winning last week's event in Tignes and has now collected four podium finishes across the FIS Freeski Park and Pipe tour.

Winter Returns To The Alps For Easter Holidays

Snowy conditions have returned to the Alps ahead of the Easter Holiday period with snowfall reported down to valley floors after temperatures dropped by up to 10C in a few hours.
The change in the weather has been caused by a front moving down from the Arctic, bringing widespread snowfall across the Western, Northern and Central Alps.

Final of the Freeride World Tour will take place in Verbier this weekend

The 2026 champions of the FIS Freeride World Tour by Peak Performance will be crowned this weekend after organisers confirmed that the season finale, the YETI Xtreme Verbier, will go ahead on Saturday 28 March.
A total of 29 riders will compete to determine this year's world champions on the iconic Bec des Rosses slope above Verbier.

Crans Montana, Switzerland, skiing well this week...
There's been a return to wintry conditions with some decent snow in parts of the Alps last weekend and heavy falls across North America's Pacific Northwest. It has been warm in parts of the western USA, while there are deep bases in the Pyrenees and Bulgaria, and spring conditions elsewhere.

Up To 1m Weekend Snowfall Recorded In The Alps

Swiss resorts have ended up reporting the biggest snowfall totals through the weekend storm, Saas-Fee reports it got a metre of snow on its higher terrain, the Aletsch Arena 97cm. Verbier also scored highly with an 80cm accumulation. The avalanche danger level has risen to 4 on the scale to max 5, which means "high danger level", particularly off piste.

Big Snowfall Heading To The Alps This Weekend

Forecasting models are increasingly confident that the three weeks of dry, mild weather in the Alps will end this weekend with some big falls of up to 80cm (nearly three feet) expected on high terrain, much of it expected on Saturday.
Although this doesn't look like an end of springtime conditions (looks like they'll be back by Monday next week), it should be a significant boost after three straight weeks of bases dropping.

The race, staged at Baita Sanon, brought together 40 two‑woman teams ranging from friends to sisters and mother‑daughter pairs, with entry open to participants aged 18 to 99.

Rock the Pistes Returns to Portes du Soleil

The Rock The Pistes music festival returns to the giant Portes du Soleil ski region, which straddles the Franco‑Swiss border, later this month, from 15–21 March.
Although its precise format has changed a little over the years, the main concept, that skiers and riders travel from their base resort of the dozen or so villages in the area to the on-slope gigs then ski back, remains the key ingredient.

Snowsport England report 100% increase in website traffic

With Team GB celebrating a record-breaking Winter Olympics, Snowsport England, the national governing body for snowsports in England, has reported an upsurge in interest in skiing and snowboarding.
Following Charlotte Bankes' and Huw Nightingale's mixed snowboard cross glory and Zoe Atkins' women's ski halfpipe bronze, Snowsport England has seen website traffic increase by 100% since the Games began on 06 February.

Les 2 Alpes to extend season to July

Les 2 Alpes is preparing for another exceptionally long season, with the French resort confirming it will offer seven-months of lift‑served skiing again this winter, so we're not even half-way though the season there yet.
For a few years now the southerly resort has offered France's longest ski season, overtaking Tignes (which once opened 365 days a year, then for at least some of every month of the year). Most recently it gave up on its previous early autumn opening and shortened its summer ski season to just over a month.
