Canada's Season Starting Tomorrow, 1 Nov, 6 Days Earlier Than Expected

Canada's 2026-27 ski season is set to begin earlier than expected after two Alberta resorts brought forward their opening dates following favorable autumn weather and strong snowmaking conditions.

Lake Louise Ski Resort, near Banff, will now begin operations on November 1, a full week ahead of schedule. Resort officials credited a cold October and intensive preparation work for allowing the early start, which ranks as the second-earliest opening in the resort's history. Initially, Lake Louise had been expected to open after neighbouring Sunshine Village.

To mark the occasion, Lake Louise says skiers and snowboarders will have access to the Juniper Express and Easy Street areas, along with two small terrain parks featuring jumps and rails. The resort is also promoting significantly discounted lift tickets for opening day visitors.

Attention has also turned to Banff's Norquay Ski & Summer Resort, which has likewise accelerated its plans. Instead of opening in mid-November, Norquay will now welcome guests on November 6, the same date Sunshine Village is scheduled to launch its season.

Norquay management said excellent snowmaking conditions enabled the revised timetable and praised staff for their efforts in preparing slopes earlier than anticipated. The resort also confirmed lift operating hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m after Alberta decided to stop moving the clocks in winter for daylight saving as we previously reported:https://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/0/21696/alberta-bc-ski-areas-open-later-day-clocks-dont-change.page
