Fresh Snow in the Pyrenees

Fresh Snow in the Pyrenees

Published : 26-Jan-2018 05:30

It's the turn of the Pyrenees to get the best new snow this week - up to 35cm reported so far overnight and the snow has continued to fall in most areas in the region through today.

The biggest snowfalls so far have been reported on the French side where most areas have had 20-30cm of fresh snow in the past 24 hours, with Ax 3 Domaines claiming 35cm (14 inches).

The snow is also falling in Andorra and Spain however and 48 hour storm totals are expected to hit 50cm at some areas.

Grandvalira in Andorra, the biggest resort in the Pyrenees with 210km of runs, has advised drivers that chains are obligatory for the ascent to the resort's bases at Canillo, Soldeu el Tarter and Pas de la Casa at present.

Sunshine should be returning to many areas from tomorrow afternoon so it should be a good weekend once the clouds lift and particularly from Sunday on.

Snow is also falling again in the Dolomites and areas of the Alps.
