Fairmont Hot Springs

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is located at the base of the spectacular Rocky Mountains, with the Purcell Mountains across the Columbia Valley to the west. The resort incorporates Canada’s largest hot mineral pools giving visitors the option of soaking in natural outdoor springs or enjoying the varied terrain and great snow conditions.

The first minor development occurred in 1887 when George Geary homesteaded in the Fairmont area. His house still stands at the far south end of the Mountainside golf course. In 1888, Sam Brewer built a rest stop for stagecoaches beginning to travel the valley. The first “Resort” was built at the hot springs location in the early 1900’s. In 1957, brothers Earl and Lloyd Wilder bought Fairmont and expanded the pools. Lloyd soon bought his brother’s share and built the resort into the facility it is today.
