After a snowy start to September It has been warm in the Alps in recent weeks and one glacier that should be open, Molltal, closed a few weeks ago whilst awaiting fresh snow.
However medium-term forecasts are now expecting temperatures to forecast by the weekend with the possibility of snow on Sunday.
Three more Austrian glacier ski areas, at Stubai, the Kitzsteinhorn and Solden usually open in September but so far do not appear to have done so or to announce an opening date. Solden is due to stage World Cup ski racing in just over a month's time hosting the season openers.
