Australian Ski Area Announces Extended Ski Season

Australian Ski Area Announces Extended Ski Season

Published : 25-Aug-2018 03:46

Australia is having a great season – in fact the consensus is that it's the best for 14 years.

Most areas are scheduled to be open for another month until 30th September, but the largest, Perisher, has just announced it will be extending its season by a week, to Sunday 7th October.
"This winter has been exceptional in Perisher with great snow conditions from early in the season. Perisher has seen great snowfalls each week of the season, building the base across the four resort areas of Perisher Valley, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes and Guthega to an incredible 203.9cm," a spokesperson for Perisher commented, adding,
"203.9cm is the deepest snow depth since 2004 and the skiing and boarding is simply epic!"

The season extension, which does tend to happen most seasons regardless of snow cover, means the area will offer skiing and boarding through to the New South Wales October School holidays.
"Over a metre of snow has fallen in August already, and there is more snow in the forecast! So keep those muscles fresh, there are plenty more turns to be had!" the spokesperson added.

Thredbo currently reports the deepest base in Australia at 225cm, also the second deepest base in the Southern Hemisphere behind the ski areas on Mr Ruapehu in New Zealand (Turoa and Whakapapa)
