Tignes Announce 6 Week Summer Ski Season
Published : 24-May-2018 10:11
Tignes have announced that they will open for summer skiing for just six weeks this summer. The formerly year-round ski area, which still claims to be open for snowsports at some point during 11 months of the year, says it will run its glacier ski lifts from 23rd June to 5th August.
The first few weeks of its opening corresponds with the end of the glacier ski season at neighbouring Val d'Isere. France's only other remaining summer-ski destination, Les 2 Alpes, will be open around the same time as Tignes.
"Great quantities of snow this winter, no less than 8.50 metres in total, enable Tignes to offer ideal conditions for glacier skiing," a resort statement claims.
Morning skiing (lifts open from 7.15am to 1pm) is offered on Tignes' Grande Motte glacier, accessed via the PerceNeige funicular up to 3,032 metres altitude in less than 7 minutes, where there will be 20 km of runs open.
Ski passes will cost €25 /adult, €20 /child or senior and two-hour ski school lessons are also available. There's also a teen ski summer camp running from 14th to 21st July 2018
