Snow is expected to fall in Australia, the Alps and in North America over the next 72 hours.
The snow is in fact already falling in Australia (Mt Buller pictured above earlier today), where the 2018 ski season is due to begin in 4 weeks' time. Ski areas in New South Wales and Victoria have reported up to 20cm of fresh snow so far, with forecasts point to as much as 50cm likely to be lying by Monday. Some excited skiers have already started hiking up hills in order to get in their first turns of 2018.
In North America there's been some fresh snow reported at Sunshine ski area near Banff; one of two Canadian ski centres still open for the 2017-18 season there.
Meanwhile snowbird in Utah to the south is forecast to receive 35cm (14 inches) of snow over the coming 48 hours ahead of their season closing day on Sunday 13th.
Finally, in Europe there's been snow forecast for Cervinia, the only ski are currently open in Italy, at weekends lonely. It's also forecast to get about a foot of snow but unfortunately much of this will arrive for Monday if the predictions are correct, so skiers will need to wait until the following Saturday until they can ski it with lift assistance.
