Ski Holidays to Iceland Go On Sale in UK

Iceland has become an increasingly popular destination for Brits over the past decade and last winter Scotland's five ski centres announced a reciprocal agreement with Iceland's ski areas so that Scottish ski area season pass holders could ski free in Iceland. But do many Brits go there to ski?
A major holiday company called Super Break is hoping so, they already offer various adventure turs to Iceland and are now offering a short ski break there operating on selected dates in January and February from a number of regional airports in the UK.
There are about 15 ski areas in Iceland, most of them small. The largest is Bláfjöll, which operates around 15 lifts quite close to capital Reykjavik. It was however hit by severe storm damage a month ago.
But Super Break are opting for one of Iceland's cult classic adventure sport destinations Akureyi on the north coast and its ski centre of Hlíðarfjall.
This has about 500 metres of vertical and a handful of lifts but is also famed for its powder snow, freeriding whilst the wider area is popular for all kinds of adventure sports.
"Skiing in Iceland is pretty unique and perhaps something many customers don't realise they can do. Our short breaks offer a great opportunity to sample the slopes and perhaps if lucky, even ski under the Northern Lights," said Graham Balmforth, Super Break's National Sales Manager.
Super Break's Icelandic ski holidays are three and four-night packages costing from £749pp including charter flights, return transfers, self-catering accommodation, ski equipment hire and a two-day ski pass.
