Alps Get Snow for Fourth Successive November Sunday
Published : 27-Nov-2017 12:01
Resorts in The Alps reported snow – in some places heavy - for the fourth successive weekend in November, giving a clean streak for November weekends and making this the snowiest Nov for quite a few years.
There are of course, some terms and conditions to the above statement – the best of the snow has, as all month and last, been on higher slopes with lower slopes so far seeing little natural snowfall.
But already-open altitude resorts posted some big accumulations, again, including 50cm at the Kitzsteinhorn glacier near Zell am See, which itself reported 33cm at the Schmittenhohe, and 20-30cm in 24 hours in the Silvretta and Hochzillertal regions.
In Switzerland there was 20-30cm of snow in 24 hours at resorts including Andermatt and Grindelwald.
There was fresh snowfall too at Val d'Isere as it opened for the season and Tignes issued a powder alarm for another 20cm of snow in 24 hours.
